A day in the Atlas Mountains, an hour from Marrakech: an argan cooperative, the Berber market of Tnine Ourika and the village of Setti Fatma, with trails to the waterfalls.
The Ourika Valley is the easiest escape from Marrakech into the Atlas Mountains. Within an hour the city is behind you and you are following the Ourika river past red-earth villages, walnut trees and orchards.
This day trip stops at a women's argan cooperative and the Berber market of Tnine Ourika, and ends in Setti Fatma, where the trails to the Ourika waterfalls begin. Hike up with a local guide or relax at the riverside cafés.

Where is the Ourika Valley?
The valley starts about 30 km from Marrakech and climbs south to Setti Fatma, at around 1,500 metres, inside the High Atlas. It is a Berber valley, with villages clinging to the slopes and the river always beside the road.
What to see
- Argan cooperative: how the women extract the oil by hand.
- Tnine Ourika market: the market of the valley villages.
- Setti Fatma: wooden bridges, riverside cafés and the start of the trails.
- Ourika waterfalls: a series of seven falls; the first are about half an hour's walk over rocks.
Wear shoes with good grip. In summer the valley is much cooler than Marrakech.

About an hour to the start of the valley and an hour and a half to Setti Fatma.
The first waterfall is about 30 minutes' walk over rocks, with a few scrambles. It is easy for regular walkers but not suitable for people with reduced mobility.
It is not compulsory, but it helps on the trail. Local guides in Setti Fatma will go with you for a small tip.
Spring and autumn. In summer it is the perfect escape from the heat of Marrakech.
