How Much Does a Trip to São Tomé and Príncipe Cost? 2026 Prices
Luciano Baetz · 26 de agosto de 2026
How much does a trip to São Tomé and Príncipe cost? Find out the average price of an 8-day tour, what's included, and the Príncipe Island extension.
If you're wondering how much a trip to São Tomé and Príncipe costs, the answer mostly depends on what's included in your package. An 8-day, 7-night tour with flights included (TAP or STP Airways), half-board and excursions included averages €2,350 per person, with a €450 single room supplement.
This isn't an ordinary trip. Visiting São Tomé and Príncipe means reconnecting with a piece of Portuguese history — the smell of coffee, the taste of cacao and the heritage of the old colonial plantations, all surrounded by paradise beaches and still-wild nature.
What's included in the price
This reference price (€2,350 per person) covers a complete circuit designed to make the most of your time on the island:
- Round-trip flight, with TAP or STP Airways
- Official guide
- Driver
- Fuel
- All the tours and excursions on the circuit
- Accommodation at the Omali Príncipe Collection Hotel and 2 nights at a boutique jungle hotel
- Half-board, including 2 Gourmet Experience lunches
The Gourmet Experience with Chef João Carlos Silva
One of the highlights of the half-board plan is lunch at Roça São João dos Angolares with Chef João Carlos Silva — the same presenter of the RTP1 programme "Na Roça com os Tachos". This lunch brings together several dishes representative of local cuisine, served against the historic backdrop of an old São Tomé plantation.
Arrival: a night at the Central Plantation
On our tours, right after arrival, we spend a night and a day in the centre of the island, at an elegant plantation. It's a bit like the old estates you'd see in the telenovela Pantanal: a mild climate that lets the body gently adjust to the heat and the change in temperature, without sudden shocks. And, as it happens, the food made by Dona Maria de Jesus at this plantation is simply one of the best culinary experiences of the whole trip.
Three routes around the island
The tour was designed to discover every corner of São Tomé through three main routes: the Coffee Route (Centre), through the heart of the island, among old plantations and mountain scenery — it's also here, near the Boa Morte neighbourhood, that we visit a giant, monumental baobab tree, which Luciano Baetz named the Sacred Tree, now part of the itinerary; the Cacao Route (North), where you can pick cacao straight from the tree; and the Paradise Beaches Route (South), with sands and waters that justify the trip on their own.
The Ilhéu das Rolas extension: the jewel of the circuit
One of the most memorable moments of this package is the full-day extension to Ilhéu das Rolas, home to the Equator Marker — the monument built at the request of navigator Gago Coutinho, marking the exact point where you can stand in both of the Earth's hemispheres at once.
Two nights in the middle of the forest
Part of the experience includes 2 nights at a boutique jungle hotel, inside an old plantation deep in the forest, with what is surely one of the most beautiful gardens in the world: flowers and birds of every kind, centuries-old trees — some, like the Ocá, over 80 metres tall. It's not unusual, on the very first day of the trip, to have already seen hundreds of flowers you'd never imagined, eaten cacao picked straight from the tree, and dipped your feet in a waterfall — all before midday.
Cuisine: fish, octopus and exotic fruit every day
In São Tomé, grilled fish and octopus are eaten almost every day, alongside a selection of tropical fruits such as mango, papaya, guava, ambarella, jackfruit, soursop, safou, mangosteen and sugarcane. A constant treat for the senses.
Inhame Hotel: the magic of simplicity
When you compare the tour's other hotels — the Omali or the Pestana, both 5-star — with the Inhame Hotel, you notice the latter is quite a bit simpler. And that's exactly where its magic lies: it's the only hotel in the South of the island with the minimum conditions for comfort, an eco resort set within nature that respects the ecosystem around it. There's no hairdryer, and hot shower water is only available between 6pm and 9pm — but the bungalows sit just 20 metres from a sea with temperatures between 27°C and 29°C. It's an invitation to relax and switch off from everything.
Staying 2 nights at the Inhame Hotel also lets you rest from the journey — the roads in São Tomé are, in fact, quite demanding. And from September to April is sea turtle nesting season, a unique natural spectacle that can only be experienced this way, right by the sea.
Beaches on the itinerary
On our tours there are excursions every day, and it's not just about seeing natural landmarks — it's also how we take travellers to the island's true paradise beaches. The beaches near the city aren't particularly clean, so our job is precisely to guide you to the beaches that truly make the trip worthwhile, such as:
- Tamarindos Beach
- Blue Lagoon
- Café Beach
- Fishermen's Beach
- Inhame Beach
- Piscina Beach
What about Príncipe Island? The "Coast to Coast Expedition" package
For those who want to discover the whole archipelago, we offer the exclusive "Expedition to São Tomé and Príncipe Coast to Coast" package: a 10-day tour that, in addition to everything already described on São Tomé island and Ilhéu das Rolas, also includes an extension to Príncipe Island, staying at the luxury Bom Bom Príncipe Collection resort. This tour costs €3,100 per person, flights included, and takes you to beaches such as Banana Beach and Boi Beach.
Just like the Inhame Hotel in São Tomé, the Bom Bom on Príncipe Island is also right by the sea — and not by chance. To see the sea turtles you need to be staying right on the beach, which is why our tours always guarantee at least 2 nights by the sea on each island.
Why book in advance
São Tomé's best hotels are small and exclusive — usually between 4 and 6 rooms — and sell out quickly. That's why our tours have limited spots, and booking ahead is essential to secure your place on this trip.
