Last-Minute São Tomé

Check in at Lisbon Airport for boarding formalities on the scheduled flight to São Tomé and Príncipe. On arrival, you'll be welcomed by our local guide and transferred straight to the hotel, with assistance on your first day to exchange euros for dobras. We cross the island south along the so-called Coconut Route, a day full of surprises. First stop at the mouth of the Abade River, known as the world's largest open-air laundry, where hundreds of women hand-wash clothes — a genuine step back in time. Next, Roça Água Izé, tied to the story of a visionary São Toméan who left an unforgettable legacy to the country. A coconut-water break follows at the geological landmark of Boca do Inferno, a must-see stop, before dense forest and volcanic scenery lead to the Pico Cão Grande viewpoint and the Malanza River — this is what paradise really looks like. After breakfast, a boat crossing to Ilhéu das Rolas, at the island's typical leve-leve (easy-going) pace, across the warm waters of the Gulf of Guinea. This day is dedicated to exploring the islet — including the rare chance to stand in both of the Earth's hemispheres at once, at the Equator Marker built at the request of Admiral Gago Coutinho. Return to the hotel at the arranged time. (Optional: lunch at a simple restaurant on the islet, based on grilled fish and octopus, around €15 — book with your guide one day ahead.) We begin the journey back to the capital, stopping at some of the island's most beautiful spots — including the Rio Cauê viewpoint and a hidden beach where the waters reflect the towering Pico Cão Grande. (Optional: lunch at Roça S. J. Angolares, with chef João Carlos Silva, known from the TV show 'Na Roça com os Tachos' — book in advance with your guide.) We continue on to the city of São Tomé.
