Is Meliá Zanzibar worth it? Kiwengwa beach location, infinity pool, Anantara Spa and real package prices. Complete guide for 2027.

Meliá Zanzibar is one of the 5-star resorts most requested by our clients at Vamos Fugir, and one reason is location: it sits on Kiwengwa beach, on the island's northeast coast, about 45 minutes by car from Stone Town — close enough for a day trip, but far enough from the capital's bustle.

Kiwengwa is a quieter, less developed stretch of coast than Nungwi or Kendwa, with a long beach and good sand quality, which makes the Meliá a popular choice for travellers seeking calm without giving up comfort.

Among the resort's amenities, the infinity pool with ocean views and direct access to a private beach stand out — two of the most praised features by past guests.

On the dining side, the Spices restaurant is the resort's flagship, serving a mix of local and international cuisine; most packages are sold on a half-board basis, which lets guests also dine out — well worth doing to sample local restaurants around Kiwengwa.

For an extra moment of relaxation, the Anantara Spa operates within the resort, with treatments charged separately (not included in the base package) — worth booking ahead, especially in high season.

Meliá Zanzibar works well both for honeymooning couples and for families, thanks to a mix of quieter zones around the main pool and easy beach access for those travelling with children.

Like much of Zanzibar's east coast, Kiwengwa sees some tidal variation, though less extreme than beaches further south such as Jambiani — it's worth checking the day's tide times to make the most of the beach and water activities.

On price, a reference 9-day half-board package (flight from Portugal included) runs around €2,800 per person — consistent with the resort's 5-star category and its private beach and premium location.

At Vamos Fugir we specialise in packages to Meliá Zanzibar and other resorts on the island. Get in touch for a tailor-made quote for your 2027 trip.
