When to go to Marrakech
The best times to travel are spring and autumn, when the Red City can be explored on foot without the heat of July and August. Then the palette shifts — the painted cedar ceilings of the Bahia Palace, or the quiet green of the Menara Gardens, contrast with the energy of Jemaa el-Fna Square, in the heart of a UNESCO-listed Medina, with a stunning view of the Koutoubia at sunset. It's worth setting aside time for the iconic Majorelle Garden, with the famous cobalt blue created by painter Jacques Majorelle and later restored by Yves Saint Laurent, or for the green retreat of Le Jardin Secret, tucked away in the Medina's alleyways. But above all, this is shopping day — lose yourselves in the souks, among lanterns, spices, rugs and leather, and haggle without shame: it's part of the ritual. Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best times, with warm, pleasant days for exploring the Medina on foot. In July and August temperatures often exceed 40 °C, while winter days are mild but nights are cold.
Marrakech is generally a safe and very popular destination. As in any busy tourist city, watch out for pickpockets in crowded areas, politely decline unofficial "guides" offering their services in the street and always agree prices beforehand. You have 24-hour local assistance throughout your trip. Check your government's travel advice before you go.
A riad is a traditional Moroccan house built around an interior courtyard, often with a garden or fountain. Staying in a riad inside the Medina means you can walk to the souks, Jemaa el-Fna Square and the main sights, in an intimate, authentic setting no chain hotel can match.

No. Marrakech is inland, at the foot of the Atlas Mountains. The nearest beach is in Essaouira, on the Atlantic coast, about 3 hours' drive away — an idea for your free day, not included in the price.
